Western Health Advantage is a proud Hunger Fighter!
At Food For Families, we’re proud to partner with local businesses that share our commitment to ending hunger and increasing access to healthy foods for all families. As one of the leading health organizations in the region, Western Health Advantage has joined our mission with vision, passion, and generosity.
Each year, Western Health Advantage (WHA) helps bring important services and education about healthy food choices to hungry families. In fact, Western Health Advantage supports more than 100 cultural, community, health and human services organizations including Food For Families and many of our partner food banks, such Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, and the River City Food Bank.
“A healthy community nourishes the body, mind and soul. Supporting the communities where we live and work has long been one of Western Health Advantage’s core values,” says Garry Maisel, CEO.
As part of their commitment to healthy lifestyles, Western Health Advantage is proud to support many local fundraising walks and runs, such as the American Heart Association Heart Walk and The Run to Feed the Hungry. These events work to accomplish many of Western Health Advantage‘s goals: increasing awareness for important health-related causes, raising funds for programs that improve community health, and encouraging residents to get outside and exercise.
Western Health Advantage employees also give of their time to make a difference. The company encourages its 160 employees and 120,000 members to lend a hand at local nonprofits and volunteering at the River City Food Bank to serve meals and provide assistance has become a valued tradition for WHA teams.
For many, the opportunity to meet a community member in need is life changing. One WHA employee recalls his first volunteer shift, when a woman grabbed his hand and earnestly thanked him for helping her to get through a difficult period in her life. Since that moving encounter, he’s been a regular volunteer at River City Food Bank where he enjoys hearing the stories of the food bank clients and offering a helping hand and encouraging word.
In addition to fighting hunger, Western Health Advantage is proud to support a variety of other organizations that improve our community, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, which pairs youths with mentors to create successful mentoring relationships for children who need and want them, Valley Vision, Mercy Foundation, WEAVE, Crocker Art Museum, and the B Street Theatre.
Western Health Advantage was also a proud sponsor of Food For Families Farm to Food Bank dinner, which raised over $315,000 to provide fresh, healthy food to our food banks.
Thank you, Western Health Advantage for your efforts to make our community a better place!
