Summer is the season we love to savor, but for the 1 in 6 Americans struggling with hunger, this time of year brings great challenges. With school out of session, many families have more meals to provide – often with fewer resources. What’s worse, while the demand for food assistance increases during the summer, donations to our food banks are often at their lowest.
And eating fresh? For the millions of Californians and Nevadans who rely on food banks to help fill the gaps in their pantry, fresh fruits and vegetables can be hard to find. In fact, up to 90% of at-risk children don’t eat enough vegetables. And only 25% consume enough fruits. This lack of access to fresh, healthy food puts these children, and their families, at a greater risk for diet-related heath problems, disease, and obesity.
But together, we can change that!
Now through July 31, when you donate to Food For Families annual Summer Fresh Drive, Raley’s will provide a matching donation of fresh fruits and vegetables to your local food bank – up to $25,000! And, as always, 100% of every donation will go directly toward feeding the hungry right in our community.
To donate, visit any Raley’s, Bel Air, or Nob Hill Foods store. You can also donate online, or on Facebook. You can even text the keyword ENDHUNGER to 85944 to contribute $5 to our Summer Fresh Drive. However you give, every donation will provide fresh, nutritious foods to those facing hunger.
It’s simple. It’s quick. And it makes a real difference!
